In recent years, larger and more intense wildfires have also contributed to high AQI readings. This has led to the popularity for personal AQI readers in wildfireprone regions. According to the companys post, Google will also be adding smoke data in coming months. Google hopes “these tools help you feel safe and informed so you can enjoy every day. ” If youre particularly concerned about wildfires, you can also add a “Wildfire Layer” in Google Maps that flags any fires in your search area.

People who are experiencing mental health problems may have a difficult time interpreting or describing how they are feeling. The use of expressive arts can help them learn more about themselves and share what they are feeling in a therapeutic context. As a multimodal therapy, expressive arts therapy draws on a few different types of single-modal approaches. Four of the main types of creative arts that are often used in expressive arts therapy include: Art therapy: This approach involves using the visual arts—such as drawing, painting and sculpting—to work through emotions, thoughts or experiences; Dance therapy: This type of therapy involves using physical movement and dance to help people cope with mental health symptoms such as anxiety, stress and depression; Music therapy: This approach uses listening to or creating music to help improve mood and ease anxiety; Writing therapy: This approach involves exploring thoughts and emotions through writing. Scientists have just designed a new plastic that can break down in seawater within weeks, not decades or more. Back in the 1930s, scientists created a now-popular plastic out of corn and potato starch. Its known as polylactic acid, or PLA. Its a polymer(聚合物), which is a molecule made by linking many building blocks into a long string. Scientists had hoped PLA would quickly break down in the environment. And in some places, like compost pits, it does. But not in seawater. Even after three years in ocean water, PLA remains largely unchanged. Timo Rheinberger is a Ph. D. student whose work on polymers has focused on boosting PLAs breakdown. As part of that work, he became part of a team that just added some biology-inspired breaking points to PLA. They put those breaking points to places where monomers(单体结构) in the PLA molecules are linked. They weakened the links that joined up to 15 percent of a PLAs monomers. Then, they soaked their samples in artificial seawater and measured how fast these weakened versions of PLA would break down. The expected final product of PLAs breakdown was a small molecule called lactic acid. So they tested for that too. As the team had hoped, seawater attacked the weakened links between monomers, ripping the polymer chain apart. The more breaking points the researchers added to the polymer, the faster the PLA broke down. When they weakened 15 percent of PLAs monomer links, the polymer broke down entirely within just two weeks. When they weakened only 3 percent of the links, the breakdown took about 2 years. This suggests the team can design how quickly PLA will break down in water by adjusting how many weakened links it has.
